Will at least three of five major seat-priced SaaS vendors report net revenue retention below 100% in a quarter before 2027-09-30?

AI-driven seat compression and build/substitution pressure push net dollar retention at major seat-priced SaaS incumbents below 100%, the clearest public evidence that pricing power inside the installed base has broken.

The case for yes

Legacy SaaS loses pricing power

AI agents deflect work previously done by licensed humans, and AI-assisted internal builds lower the cost of replacing or shrinking seat-based contracts, so renewals remove seats and resist price uplifts. Per-seat pricing had tied software costs directly to headcount growth, but once AI agents can produce output equivalent to several employees that link breaks down. New entrants built quickly and cheaply push sellers off predictable subscriptions toward usage-based pricing, making forward revenue harder to sustain. Expansion revenue inside the installed base no longer outruns churn and seat compression, and reported net retention falls below 100% at three or more of the five named vendors.

The case for no

Mission-critical software keeps net retention above the line

Mission-critical, system-of-record software retains deep workflow stickiness and integration, and AI capabilities becoming commoditized does not change that embedding, so switching costs stay high across government, healthcare and financial-services deployments. AI features embedded in strong platforms can increase reliance by making deployment faster and driving deeper integration rather than displacing seats. Forward-deployed engineers who relay customer pain points let incumbents use AI tooling to improve products rapidly and defend their base. Under this view, net retention at no more than two of the five named vendors falls below 100% before 2027-09-30.

  1. ServiceNow, operating cash flow as a share of revenue, quarter ended September 30, 2026: whether it comes in at or above 15%.

    On the Docket Pendingth115-t04Pre-specified

    Question
Did the net cash from operating activities of ServiceNow for the quarter ended September 30, 2026 come to at or above 15.0% of its revenue?
    Source
SEC EDGAR, XBRL company facts of ServiceNow (Forms 10-Q and 10-K)
    Rule
Divide the net cash from operating activities by the revenue that ServiceNow reports for the quarter ended September 30, 2026 in its 10-Q or 10-K filing on SEC EDGAR. The answer is yes if the ratio is at or above 15.0%; no if it is below 15.0%.
If the source is late, revised or silent
If ServiceNow has not filed by November 16, 2026, or a filing restates a period the rule reads, the test is inconclusive, and the Result says what was read and what was missing.
    Base rate
ServiceNow's operating cash flow as a share of revenue was 14.7% for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, by its filing on SEC EDGAR.
    Outside view
A year earlier, for the quarter ended June 30, 2025, the same line read 22.3%, so the rungs sit on the last print.

In The Buildout

The stories that take up this thesis, with their own Calls and tests.

A thesis page states one question and both sides of it; DeepStack takes no side in words, and its view is the number it gives each test before the date. Analysis and opinion, not investment advice. Voices are paraphrased from public writing and attributed by name; DeepStack shows no score, ranking or accuracy for any person. Pre-specified means the words were approved on or before the test’s date. Specified after the date means they were written afterwards: such a test is counted and shown, and never rated. An open question has no words yet. The Call’s number is the chance, from 0 to 100, that the Call gives the yes answer to a test’s question, recorded before the test’s date; it is DeepStack’s own reading, not a market price and not advice. The readers’ mark on the same line is the readers’ median, the middle of the numbers signed-in readers gave the test, shown from 25 readers. The machines: Each model read this page and nothing else. The number that counts is the latest one each model gave before the test closed.
